I do not mourn a loss
of love,
but the loss of
a moment.
Fleeting, hazy, and
scandalous as it may be,
I grieve its passing
with as much emotion as though it existed for longer than
an intoxicated
evening in the incandescent moonlight.
The water lapped up
onto my arms
but they were numb to
the chill.
My body was free of
sensation
lest
my eyes that were
burning
trying to absorb the
sudden desire, passion, and gentleness that exuded from your own.
There was
nothing
between us.
But for a moment in
time we saw each other as beautiful.
For a few seconds we
did not glare in dislike
or blink with
indifference.
One time one late
summer evening we felt.
